DMCA Lawsuit from Amazon Against MobileRead

Posted on 16 Mar 2009 at 9:03am

We have heard the news that Amazon has take lawsuit against MobileRead for this site’s link to a small portion of software called kindlepid.py. This software can make us able to read e-Books that we get from other stores in our Kindle. Amazon uses DMCA law to put charges against MobileRead and we all know that this charge is completely on the wrong place.

It might be true that MobileRead had helped people to get kindlepid.py, but if we can easily use Google to get this software too. However, fully respecting the charges from Amazon, MobileRead has removed all its content that related to kindlepid.py. This software actually has nothing to do with DMCA. It even does not related to any e-Books copyright violation. This software works only as a tool to help us reading the legally obtained eBooks in our Amazon Kindle 2, even though we purchase those e-Books from other stores. This might be the part that makes Amazon freak out. The fact that people can buy e-Books from other stores, then use Kindle to read it.

Many people react on this wrong lawsuit. Using the very wrong law to charge someone only shows that Amazon is being so aggressive against its competitors. This wrong act has made them get bad credit and lose their customers.
