Tata Motors is ready to launch the company’s all-electric car, Tata Indica, but in the first stage the car will be sold only in Norway later this year or in early 2010, later than previous schedule.
As an introduction, Tata Indica is displayed at the SAE World Congress which is being in Detroit this week, and after selling the car in Norway the company will be ready to launch the car in the world.
Although the model will not be released soon, there’s a lot to be learnt from the vehicle and from TM4 about how the technology will be implemented when the new model is on sale in Norway.
TM4 is a subsidiary of Hydro Québec which has been selected by Miljø Innovasjon, a subsidiary of Tata Motors, to provide electric motors, power electronics and vehicle controllers for an electric car demonstration program to be launched in Norway in 2009-2010.
TM4 said that a limited number of Indica cars are already testing in Norway and that Tata Motors is “a cool company.”
Tata Motors showed off the Indica EV at the Bologna Motor Show in December 2008, but the hatchback is making an appearance in Detroit show because of the work that TM4.
Tata Motors Limited is India’s largest automaker that booked revenues of US$9.0 billion in 2008. The company is a leader in the passenger vehicle market and is also the world’s fourth-largest truck manufacturer and second-largest bus manufacturer.
Meanwhile, Miljø Innovasjon, in which Tata Motors holds a controlling interest through its subsidiary Tata Motors European Technical Centre, produces electric versions of vehicles manufactured and sold by Tata Motors.
