Amazon is ready to introduce a new Kindle which has a wider screen and has been especially designed for reading newspapers, magazines, and textbooks, and which expectedly will become part of new electronic course material test at six universities this autumn.
This new Kindle, which is likely to be named Kindle DX, is new version of the previous which was launched by the end of 2007. Newspapers which hope that this new version of Amazon.com’s Kindle e-reader will be a rescuer for their besieged businesses may be let down when it is introduced on Wednesday.
Yet, Kindle is likely to attain chances among academics because textbooks have very high prices. Besides, they are hulking and often difficult to get rid once they have been bought. It is rather difficult to sell the second edition of a textbook on the used-book market when the third edition comes out the following year. So theoretically it may be the perfect market for an electronic reader like the Kindle.
Still, although Amazon has signed agreements with some textbook companies and a number of well-known academic institutions, it does not mean that mass of new freshmen throughout the US will come this autumn bringing along Kindles with them.

An all-electric car will be launched into the market next year by the manufacturer, Miles Electric Vehicles, at price of US$45,000 per unit. It will have a different name and use the chassis of this existing car which is manufactured in China.
Miles Electric car, which was established in 2004, has prepared to test the market with 200-300 sedans of this type in the first half of 2010, and then make more ready for sale in California by autumn of that year.
Besides, the company also sells electric sedans today that can run at speed of 25 miles per hour, and has developed an electric sedan which has four doors and can take five passenger with capability to run at approximately 100 miles per hour.
This electric car is practical but it has an innovative technology as it can reach top speed of about 80 miles per hour, but the 100-mile range is realistic based on Miles’ tests. The car needs 8-12 hours for charging its an empty battery with a regular 110-volt outlet or about half of it when use a higher voltage connection.
NAVIGON said the company has decided to withdraw temporarily from PND business in the North American market because of difficult economic climate and violent price competition, but it will not close its Chicago office that will continue to serve the company’s automotive and mobile phone businesses in North America.
This German company introduced the company’s first products in North America market in September 2007. During the period of January-March 2008, the company came in the fourth rank on the US market with a share of 7.7%. The company was able to reach this market share so fast as it invested in advertising and was the first to introduce a lifetime traffic service bundled into the price of its product. The company also had a local product team to localize its software to North American tastes.
Possibly the company’s existence on the US market had been sustainable as long as the company’s A brands maintained a certain level of premium price. But as products like the TomTom ONE was sold at $99 since the end of last year, there has been less opportunity for NAVIGON though the company’s product have good quality.
