Scan and Fax Your Documents Online for Free

Posted on 11 May 2009 at 3:38pm

Faxes which were popular in the 1980’s have slowly disappeared  with the advent of e-mail and file attachments, but very often a government agency or employer requires another agency to fax a document and certainly  the agency you could buy a fax machine for such rare a occasion.

But lucky enough, there are some services online that let us fax documents and PDFs for cheap or for free. Today there are four websites that allow us to send fax online and come with a free or trial version.

FaxZero and eFax provide straight-up faxing services without bells and whistles. Even FaxZERO will send faxes for free, just as long as they arre under three pages, and just as long as you don’t mind an ad on the coversheet, and just as long as you don’t want to send more than two in a day.

FaxZERO has a premium service that charges 1.99$ for each fax and limits the number of pages per fax at fifteen. If we need to send more than two faxes a day and you don’t want to pay for the premium service, then we could think of deleting our browser cache and cookies and using another IP address, either through the TOR network, proxies or simply by resetting our router.

Meanwhile, Qipit is a more comprehensive service when compared to faxZERO. Qipit is not merely an online faxing service, but also helps us upload photos of documents, business cards or receipts from a mobile phone or digital camera, and improves the image quality through a patented technology called Realeyes3D. Next images can be emailed or faxed.

Once our document is on Qipit, we can select to either view a PDF version of it, email the document or fax it. Qipit’s image optimization technology proved to be quite powerful. I never expected that a photo taken with a mobile phone camera could actually be put to use.

As we see some Acer Aspire one customer reviews say this Netbook can do it. I have gaming-powerhouse as a desktop (Thanks Tiger) for everything beyond what this Netbook can do. This household has both the 8.9” and 10.1” models; both have been great. When they are not side-by-side I would say they both were the same size; but when I use the 8.9” the screen seems to small, but the feel is totally different with the 10.1”, it feels just right. Well, you may see more Acer Aspire one customer reviews on TigerDirect.

Robotic Hand Named RAPHaEL

Posted on 11 May 2009 at 1:13am

A unique robotic hand by name of RAPHaEL (Robotic Air Powered Hand with Elastic Ligaments) has been developed by the Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory (RoMeLa) of the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech.

RAPHaEL is able to firmly hold objects which are as heavy as a can of food or as fragile as a raw egg, but handy enough to gesture for sign language.

This is fully articulated robotic hand is powered by a compressor air tank at 60 psi and a novel accordion type tube actuator. Microcontroller commands operate the movement to coordinate the motion of the fingers.

This air-powered design is what makes the hand unique, because it does not require the use of any motors or other actuators, the grasping force and compliance can be easily adjusted by simply changing the air pressure.

The grip originates from the extent of pressure of the air. A low pressure is used for a lighter grip, whereas a higher pressure allows for a stronger grip. The compliance of compressed air also helps in the grasping as the fingers can naturally follow the curve of the grasped object.
