Microsoft has released its second under the license for general public software. The software is called Moodle, it is the open source software that used to conduct online learning. “The software is released based on the GPLV2”, according to the information from Peter Galli, as the manager of community for the Mircosoft’s Platform Strategy Group.
This new software will complement the education services provided by Microsoft and will improve its previous services like e-mail, calendar, instant messaging and online searching.

Moodle itself is free open source course management software that is used by teachers to conduct online class or teaching via website. The system itself has been used by more than 30 million users in 207 countries.  This software is free and can be downloaded from Microsoft’s Education Labs Web site.

This company seems to change its orientation by releasing the first General Public License (GPL) to the public.  The change of the orientation is also seen from the release  20,000 lines  code to Linux kernel, includes drivers for virtualizing open-source OS at Microsoft’s Hyper-V software. Although Microsoft seems to change its orientation, its strike against the patent to the open source companies that Microsoft claims having its technology as its intellectual properties.
